Simulation Game

Simulation games, also known as sims, are a genre of video games that attempt to replicate real-world activities or systems as closely as possible. You can do things just like in real life, but on a computer. In the games, you can build cities, run farms, or fly planes.

Simulation games date back to the early days of computing, when developers aimed to create programs that simulated real-world systems for training or educational purposes. One of the earliest examples is SimCity, released in 1989 by Maxis, which allowed players to build and manage their own city. These games are popular because they let you learn and explore while having fun, all from the comfort of your computer, phone or gaming console.

Simulation games include a broad range of activities, but they share common gameplay elements that define the genre. The activities include, realism, management, strategy, customization and creativity and open- ended gameplay.

To achieve realism, simulation games often incorporate detailed mechanics that resemble real-world processes. For example, in flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator, players experience realistic physics, weather conditions, and aircraft controls. The goal is to provide an authentic experience that can sometimes be educational and feel real.

On the other hand, many simulation games focus on management and strategy. In The Sims series, players control the lives of virtual people, making decisions about their daily activities, careers, relationships, and living environments. Similarly, games like SimCity or Cities: Skylines require players to manage resources, plan infrastructure, and respond to the needs of their virtual populations.

Furthermore, Simulation games often feature open-ended gameplay with no fixed objectives or end goals. This allows players to set their own goals and play at their own pace. Additionally, customization is a significant aspect of most video games, and simulation games have largely embraced it. Players are often given tools to modify and create their virtual environments. Players can build structures and landscapes, as well as design and manage their own theme parks.
